500-plus types of frozen waffles recalled over listeria risk

A frozen waffle supplier has recalled more than 500 types of frozen waffles over listeria concerns.

Treehouse Foods issued the voluntary recall after routine testing at the manufacturing plant. The recall includes several major brands sold at retailers nationwide, like Best Choice, Good and Gather, Great Value, Hannaford, Kodiak, Publix, Simple Truth and more.

Listeria infection can be deadly for older Americans, pregnant women and consumers with weakened immune systems. Listeriosis sufferers may experience symptoms such as "fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms," the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service says.

No illnesses have been reported from the waffle recall, according to Treehouse Foods.

The recalled products were distributed at major retailers throughout the United States and Canada, including Walmart, Target, Kroger-owned stores, Publix and more. You can check to see if the waffles in your freezer are under recall by checking the UPC, Lot Code and Best By Date on the carton. Click here to see the list of recalled waffles.

If you do have recalled waffles, Treehouse Foods says you should return the product to the retailer where it was purchased for credit.
