DPS investigates following second night of shots fired around law enforcement in El Mirage
EL MIRAGE, Ariz. - Law enforcement officers came too close for comfort to gunfire nearby – and this happened just a short distance from where shots were fired the previous day.
The Department of Public Safety says the shots were fired at 11:00 p.m. on Oct. 28, two El Mirage officers were at a QuikTrip gas station on Grand and 113th avenues.
After completing an unrelated call for service, those officers heard at least two gunshots in the area and requested assistance, not knowing if the shots were directed at them.
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, El Mirage PD, and DPS all came out and searched the area for possible suspects. So far, no one has been found.
No injuries to officers or any bystanders were reported.
DPS is now leading the investigation.
It's currently unknown if this incident is related to the one that happened in the same area on Oct. 27. In that case, when a DPS trooper was checking an abandoned car in a river bottom, a shot was fired and the bullet hit the driver's side door of the trooper's vehicle. The trooper was not hurt and it is unclear who fired the shot. DPS and El Mirage PD continue to investigate the situation.
