Suspect critically wounded after police shooting in Phoenix
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Police say a suspect is in extremely critical condition after being shot by an officer.
Officials say the incident occurred about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday near 19th Avenue and Rose Garden at an AM/PM convenience store's parking lot following a traffic stop.
"At one point the suspect driver put the car in reverse and rammed a fully marked Patrol Tahoe with officers standing nearby. Another officer in an unmarked vehicle saw that the driver raised a handgun. The officer fired his service weapon at the driver, striking him and ending the threat," stated Phoenix Police Sgt. Vince Lewis.
Two handguns were recovered from inside the suspect vehicle.
A passenger inside the vehicle was taken into custody. The male suspect was transported to an area hospital.
Lewis says there were no injuries to officers.
No names have been released in this case as the investigation is ongoing.
