Shooting suspect claims he was aiming a victim's dog

The suspect in a shooting in south Phoenix said he was shooting at the victim's dog who was attacking him. Maury Williamson, 35, is a prohibited possessor and ineligible to be released on bail.

A man has been arrested after a shooting at a south Phoenix home left a woman dead.

The shooting happened just after 1:30 a.m. on May 30 near 16th Street and Roeser Road.

Woman killed in south Phoenix shooting

A woman is dead following a shooting at a home near 16th Street and Roeser Road.

When Phoenix Police officers got to the home, they found a woman outside with a gunshot wound. The woman was taken to a hospital where she died.

She's identified as Genoveva Antillon, 38. As for the suspect, police say Maury Williamson, 35, killed her.

"While conducting their interviews, detectives spoke to 35-year-old Maury Williamson who provided statements that were inconsistent with the crime scene. He was questioned on those inconsistencies and later admitted to shooting Antillon accidentally when he shot at a dog on the property that he thought was attacking him. The firearm was found hidden inside the mobile home and recovered by detectives after a search warrant was obtained," said Phoenix Police Sgt. Phil Krynsky.

Williamson is accused of manslaughter, weapons violations and tampering with evidence.
