Police: Driver arrested after hitting, killing jogger in Ahwatukee
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Police say a woman has been arrested after she hit and killed a jogger with her vehicle in Ahwatukee.
Phoenix police say the fatal collision happened near South Lakewood Parkway and East Amberwood Drive early Thursday morning when police say 25-year-old Shannon Scott drove her vehicle onto the sidewalk and hit 36-year-old Martha Hilts, who was jogging.
Hilts was transported to a nearby hospital and was pronounced dead.
Police say Scott stayed at the scene after the collision and showed signs of impairment. Police say there was also a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
Scott was arrested on manslaughter charges.
