Man arrested after barricading self, woman inside hotel
PHOENIX - UPDATE: The suspect has been identified as 45-year-old Gary Laverne Minor. He's been booked into jail on charges of unlawful flight from a law enforcement vehicle, aggravated assault, endangerment, unlawful imprisonment, kidnapping and discharging a firearm at a residence.
Police in Phoenix said late Tuesday afternoon that a standoff situation with a suspect has come to an end.
According to police, as negotiations continued, officers heard a shot fired from within the room. Officers then forced entry, and safely detained the two people inside. The suspect, according to police, had some minor injury, and the alleged victim was not hurt.
No officers, according to police, were injured.
According to earlier reports, officers attempted to stop a vehicle about 2:30 a.m., near 27th and Dunlap avenues for a stolen license plate. Police said the driver abandoned his truck and ran into his room at the Comfort Suites.
Officials reported that the woman in the room had been texting a family member that the suspect is armed. and she was being held against her will. During negotiations, police said the suspect threatened to shoot officers in the immediate area.
