Suspect shot, killed by Goodyear officers in Avondale

An investigation is underway in the West Valley after a police shooting left a suspect dead.

The shooting happened at around 5:00 p.m., in the area of McDowell Road and Dysart.

According to officials, a woman called 911 saying that a man who was panhandling pointed a gun toward her about a mile west of the shooting scene, at a fast food eatery.

When officers first came in contact with him, police say the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Tinse Peterson, lifted his shirt to show that he had a gun in his waistband before walking away from officers.

Suspect shot, killed by police in Avondale

Police say a man who had a gun was shot and killed by Goodyear officers in Avondale.

Officers then confronted Peterson again at a nearby gas station.

"Peterson began reaching for his back and was ordered not to do so as officers knew he had a firearm," said the Glendale Police Department, who is investigating the shooting. "Less lethal weapons were deployed in an attempt to stop Peterson from reaching, however, he pulled the handgun from his waistband."

Police say officers then exchanged fire with Peterson, striking him. Peterson was taken to a hospital where he later died.

No officers were hurt.

Man taken to hospital following police shooting

An adult male was transported to the hospital after the shooting Wednesday, Nov. 15 near Dysart Road and McDowell Road, authorities say.
