Family of woman shot, killed in Phoenix seeks justice

The family of a woman who was found dead at Steele Indian School Park in Phoenix addressed the public on Wednesday in hopes of helping police find her killer.

"Karrissa was very kind and humble – she liked doing things for people, but she always did it in the background where she didn't expect any recognition," Karrissa's mother Sylvia Hamilton said. "Please, if you know anything, please come forward. She was a really good person, she had a good soul. We don't know who could have done this. Please, if you know something please come forward."

The family gathered to remember the young mother who was taken way too soon.

"I was Karrissa’s mother. Karrissa was my only child. She was my world," Hamilton said. "There’s not one second of the day that I don’t think about her. I really, really miss her, and they say that time heals. It’s been 9 months and it seems to be getting worse every day. I don’t like being alone."

Karrissa Hamilton: Death of young mom remains a mystery

Her loss has left the family broken.

"Never did I imagine that someone would have hurt her because she was a good person. She was a kind person," her aunt Patricia Brienza said.

Hamilton moved to Phoenix from Yuma in the fall wanting to provide a better life for her son.

Family says it was her dream to become a sports reporter. She was quiet and always put others first.

It’s been 9 months since her brutal passing and the family fears justice may never be served.

"There’s a big void in our lives. She was the one that filled it," Brienza said.

If you have any information on the case, you're asked to call police at 602-262-6151 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS, or 480-TESTIGO for Spanish.
