Fake GoFundMe page created for victim of Sebring bank shooting, sheriff says
SEBRING, Fla. (FOX 13) - Officials issued a warning about a fake GoFundMe page set up in the name of one of the victims of the Sebring bank shooting.
The Highlands County Sheriff's Office alerted the public on Saturday about the fraudulent fundraising page that had been set up in an attempt to profit from the horrific shooting.
"There is an obviously fraudulent GoFundMe campaign set up trying to use the SunTrust tragedy to make money," the sheriff's office said in a post on Facebook. "It has been reported to GoFundMe and we are also looking into it."
Any citizens who spot suspicious fundraisers are asked to alert deputies or the Sebring Police Department.
