PHOENIX - The Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating a deadly crash that shut down the Loop 202 at 32nd Street early Sunday morning.
The crash happened just before 4 a.m. on Sept. 24 along the eastbound lanes of the Red Mountain freeway. DPS says a car that was involved in an earlier hit-and-run crash near Interstate 17 and Durango Road got into another crash along the Loop 202.
Two people stopped at the scene to help assist with the collision, and one of them was hit by a vehicle and killed.
Two other drivers were hospitalized with serious injuries. Phoenix Fire says a 5-month-old infant who riding in one of the cars was hospitalized in stable condition.
Four vehicles were reportedly involved in the collision.
Impairment is being investigated as a possible factor in the crash.

Mesa good Samaritan killed in Loop 202 crash
The good Samaritan, identified as 34-year-old Doug Hunt of Mesa, died after he got out of his vehicle to help those injured in another accident. FOX 10s Linda Williams reports.
Victim identified
The victim was identified as Douglas Hunt, a 34-year-old Mesa resident.
According to reports, a car driving on the 202 hit the car Hunt had pulled up in, pushing it into the accident scene and killing Hunt.
Officials speak out
"This is an absolute tragedy. This is the worst-case scenario where someone who was completely uninvolved is stopping to help those that they saw were in need and ended up being the victim themselves," DPS Sgt. Eric Andrews said.
Sgt. Andrews said as troopers, they have so many protections and precautions they are trained to do when investigating an accident at night.
"We're going to make sure everything's illuminated," said Sgt. Andrews. "Might do a traffic break, park my car far enough back so there's some space in case someone does slam into my car. It's not going to go into those of us on scene, hopefully."
