Double shooting investigation underway in Buckeye

A double shooting investigation is underway in a Far West Valley community. FOX 10's Lauren Clark has the latest.

Officials with Buckeye Police say they are investigating a double shooting that left a man and a woman hurt.

The shooting happened at 10:45 a.m. on Nov. 19 at a home near McDowell Road and Sienna Hills Parkway.

Buckeye Police say officers responded to the scene and found a woman in her early-20s lying in the doorway with multiple gunshot wounds to her back. A man in his early-20s was found on the ground in front of the home with an apparent gunshot wound to his head.

"Officers immediately began life-saving measures on both of these individuals," said Carissa Planalp with Buckeye Police.

A man and a woman were found shot at a home on Nov. 19 near McDowell Road and Sienna Hills Parkway in Buckeye.

The woman was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. They were not identified.

"This was an ex-boyfriend/ex-girlfriend relationship," Planalp said.

Per Buckeye Police, the woman was able to give officers a statement as she was being taken to the hospital.

"Our understanding of what happened is that the ex-boyfriend arrived at the home, confronted the woman in the doorway, that’s where the shooting occurred, and then turned the gun on himself," said Planalp.

Neighbors speak out

Brent Ruizz said Tuesday morning was like any other morning in the neighborhood, until he heard commotions at around 11:00 a.m.

"It’s very shocking when you hear a bunch of fire trucks, police cars literally storm down the road. You never see that happen," said Ruizz. "Then you start hearing the helicopter circling around in the air, and you know something is definitely wrong."

Another person who lives in the area, Sarah Noccchi, expressed her shock at what happened.

"I’m pretty shocked, because we moved here about two and a half years ago, and it was a super quiet neighborhood," said Nocchi. "It’s always been very quiet."
