According to SmileHub's 2024 survey, the top overall charities include Optica, Aga Khan Foundation, Morgan Stanley Global Impact Funding Trust, and Nationwide Children's Hospital. These organizations excelled in financial health, program efficiency, and transparency.
How are the charities rated?
SmileHub says in a press release that it uses a proprietary rating system considering five main categories: financial health, management overhead, fundraising efficiency, program efficiency, and transparency. Each charity is scored out of 100, with 100 being the most trustworthy.
SmileHub says it compared nearly 300,000 U.S.-based charities using their proprietary rating system, which includes 15 metrics across the five categories. Nonprofits with political affiliations, school-related endowments, or those involved in legal investigations were excluded. Charities were categorized by size: mega, large, medium, and small, and by category with at least $5 million in revenue for consideration.
