Correctional Officer arrested for distributing drugs in prison

A Lewis Prison Correctional Officer of 11 years was fired by the Arizona Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and Reentry for his role in distributing drugs at the prison.

Berman Comon was released from his position as a Correctional Officer in early January.

An investigation launched five months ago produced evidence, including video footage, that showed Comon distributing drugs and contraband within the prison community.

ADCRR said that his actions did not involve any other staff members and that Comon was arrested for his actions.

The Maricopa County Drug Suppression Task Force assisted in the investigation.

"The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation, and Reentry (ADCRR) takes immense pride in the dedication and professionalism our officers demonstrate daily in maintaining the safety of the community, staff, and inmates. Upholding the highest standards of integrity is at the core of our mission, and we take swift and decisive action when those standards are not met," ADCRR said in a statement.

The Lewis Prison is located in Buckeye.
