Woman found dead in west Phoenix double house fire

One person is dead after a double house fire broke out early Friday morning in a west Phoenix neighborhood. 

The Phoenix Fire Department says crews responded to the fire at around 2 a.m. on Jan. 10 near 83rd Avenue and Thomas Road.

Once at the scene, firefighters found two homes on fire.

"As crews were conducting their search and rescue they found one victim inside the west home," Capt. Todd Keller said.

The victim, an adult woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was not identified.

Crews were able to extinguish the flames. No firefighters were hurt.

"The Community Assistance Program is on the scene to tend to the families [sic] needs," Keller added. "At this time it is unknown how many people will be displaced and the cause is under investigation."
