When officers got to the scene, they found Richard Longoria with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital where he later died.
The suspect, 36-year-old Ruben Longoria, remained on scene and was detained.
Investigators say Richard was from California and was staying with his son. The two had an argument that escalated into a physical altercation.
"Ruben then retrieved a firearm from his bedroom and shot Richard multiple times," police said. "He subsequently asked his wife to call the police."
Police say Ruben Longoria shot his father following an argument at a home near 45th and Northern Avenues.
Some of the incident was caught on video by a camera inside the home, court documents said. Ruben allegedly told detectives that his father threatened to kill him, and he shot his father to protect his family.
Ruben was booked into jail and is accused of first-degree murder and misconduct involving weapons.
