911 calls released in Independence school shooting

GLENDALE, Ariz. (KSAZ) - School was just about to start on Friday morning at Independence High School in Glendale when two shots rang out.

Students immediately began calling 9-1-1.

"I'm at Independence High School and two girls just got shot," one caller said.

"I need an ambulance to Independence High School right now, somebody is hurt," another caller said.

9-1-1 operators were trying to gather as many details as possible, not knowing at the time if there was a possible shooter inside the school.

"What happened?" the 9-1-1 operator asked.

"I'm not sure, but we heard two pops and there are two people hurt," the caller replied.

"You need to lock the doors down and get safe, OK?" the 9-1-1 operator said.

"OK, lock down the auditorium," the caller said.

Students at Independence High School identified the two girls and Glendale police say the gun used in this horrific crime was given to the 15-year-old shooter by a classmate, after she told him she needed if for "protection" and that she would "return it back to him on Friday."

That student's parents had no idea the gun was taken from the home, according to police.

The 15-year-old boy who gave the gun to the shooter has cooperated with the investigation. The Maricopa County Attorney's Office is now investigating the boy's involvement in the shooting.
