California condor chick is 5th found in Southwest in 2019

Wildlife biologists say a record number of wild California condor chicks have been documented this year in the U.S. Southwest with the discovery earlier this month of No. 5, a nestling found in Grand Canyon National Park.

Helicopter dropping water onto wildfire on North rim

Officials say the fire near the area of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon was started by lightning and has become more active recently due to high winds. Cews are trying to stop it from growing northward as winds pick up again this weekend.

Wildfire north of Grand Canyon burning excess vegetation

A wildfire being allowed to burn on the Arizona Strip north of the Grand Canyon has grown to 2.6 square miles (7 square kilometers) within a much larger planning area where public-land managers say the fire is removing excess vegetation from the forest floor.
