The Arizona Legislature is getting back to work. The 2025 season opens on Jan. 13 when Governor Katie Hobbs delivers the State of the State address. FOX 10's Irene Snyder reports.

AZ State Sen. Anthony Kern recovering after car crash

Arizona State Sen. Anthony Kern suffered a collapsed lung, nine broken ribs and two fractured vertebrae in the crash, which happened in South Dakota. Kern was visiting family over the Christmas holiday when the crash happened. Kern was the passenger in a car that lost control and crashed after sliding on the ice. Kern said the driver of the car is doing OK.

Former President Jimmy Carter dies at 100

Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States who was known for his enduring commitment to philanthropy and humanitarian work, died on Dec. 29, 2024. Carter came into office the same year as a new senator from Arizona, Dennis DeConcini, who worked with Carter on projects like the Panama Canal. DeConcini spoke with FOX 10 about Carter's legacy.

Kari Lake says she will not run for office

On social media, Kari Lake says she will not run for public office in Arizona again, adding that there is, "a corrupt machine here that is hellbent on making sure I never win."

Fontes overstepped his authority on elections manual

Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Scott Blaney ruled that Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes exceeded his authority when he created the rule in the 2023 Elections Procedures Manual. It required the statewide certification of elections results to move forward even if the vote tallies from every county in the state have not been submitted.

Kyrsten Sinema delivers farewell speech to Senate

Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema delivered a farewell speech on the Senate floor on Dec. 18. Sinema served in the U.S. Senate for six years. She was elected as a Democrat but later changed her party to Independent. Sinema previously announced she would not seek a second term. Sinema was the first woman to represent Arizona in the U.S. Senate.
