Arizona governor gets good, bad marks for virus response

Governor Doug Ducey's management of the coronavirus though the pandemic’s initial low stages to its extreme onslaught and back to lows again holds stark lessons for other states as their leaders oversee reopenings of universities, K-12 schools and businesses into the fall.

Gov. Ducey issues executive order delaying expiration of driver licenses

According to a news release from the governor's office, standard driver licenses that have an expiration date between March 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020 have been deferred by one year from their original expiration date in order to "minimize in-person visits to Arizona Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) Offices and help contain the spread of COVID-19."

Gyms aim to open in Phoenix, Tucson as virus cases ebb

State guidelines drafted by Christ’s department say gyms can reopen at 25% capacity once a county hits moderate transmission rates but must commit to implementing strategies to prevent the spread of the virus. Gyms are also urged to use a reservation system. Bars and nightclubs also can open at 50% occupancy levels, but only if they convert to restaurant service and implement stringent health department guidelines. Bars with no food service must remain closed.
