Luis Tiant, the Boston Red Sox pitching legend who played 19 years in Major League Baseball, has died. He was 83.

Tiant, who was born in Cuba, pitched for the Cleveland Indians, Minnesota Twins, Red Sox, New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Pirates and Los Angeles Angels during his career.

The pitcher made his major league debut in 1964 with Cleveland. And after pitching six years with the Indians, he spent one season with Minnesota, then eight years with the Boston Red Sox.

Tiant left the Red Sox for the Yankees in free agency after the 1978 season, and following two seasons in New York, he wrapped up his career with stints with the Pirates and the Angels.

He finished his career with a 229-172 record, and a 3.30 ERA, with 187 complete games and 49 shutouts. Tiant also led the American League in ERA two times and in shutouts three times, according to the Baseball Hall of Fame website.

Tiant is a member of the Red Sox Hall of Fame and the Hispanic Heritage Baseball Hall of Fame, CBS News reported.
