Williams Fire in Cochise County burns down several structures
COCHISE COUNTY, Ariz. - Evacuations have been lifted amid the Williams Fire, which has burned more than 1,320 acres in Cochise County.
Forward progress of the fire has been stopped, and it is now 90% contained, the Bureau of Land Management - Arizona Fire said.
Additionally, all roads have been reopened.
"Fire remains monitored by BLM and Fire Department personnel who advise residents returning to areas in Copper Glance to note there are still air quality issues so keep windows closed," officials said.
Firefighters had reported "erratic fire behavior" as winds in the state are high at the start of the week.
At least five buildings, including two homes, were lost in the fire.
"Several Cottonwood trees in the fire's interior producing heat/smoke that could continue for next few days. Two engines and a handcrew remain assigned," BLM said on April 7.
It appears the fire began on April 3 along the San Pedro River, south of Hereford Road.
