TEMPE, Ariz. (FOX 10) - Family and friends of 14-year-old Antonio Arce held a vigil to honor his life Saturday afternoon.
Candles, flowers and a sign that says 'rest in peace Antonio Arce' were laid near the spot where Arce was shot and killed.
There were a lot of heavy hearts as friends and family marched down the alley way where the 14-year-old was shot by a Tempe Police Officer just north of 48th and Baseline.
Body cam footage does show when Officer Jaen arrived to this location after a 9-1-1 call saying someone was in a truck.
When officer Jaen arrived, he saw Antonio in the car with what appeared to be a gun. Turns out it was an air soft gun.
Police say Antonio began running and the officer opened fire, hitting the boy.
Many at the vigil said they feel as if there was no threat in order to shoot Antonio, aware that he did have a gun. Antonio's brother said "he ran because he was scared."
"I didn't know that it would hurt so much, my boy...in this location this is where my son, a child of 14-years-old who doesn't know the difference of what's good and what's bad because he hasn't lived long enough," said Antonio's parents.
The incident is still being investigated and the officer has been placed on administrative leave.
