Valley school celebrates Random Acts of Kindness Day

GLENDALE, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Principal Justin Dye knows that when he asks a student to help, they always answer in kind.

Heritage Elementary, a charter school in Glendale, follows six pillars, which are responsibility, respect, trust, worthiness, fairness, caring and citizenship. Recently, the school has been adding random acts of kindness.

"We wanted the kids to take it outside of the school and kid of almost pay it forward in a way and bring it back," he said.

The 750 students at the school spent the week being nice by writing two acts of kindness on paper and linking them together.

"We want it to continue, so it's a chain reaction telling the kids that being kind is a chain reaction and it continues into the community to their schools, to their family," Vice Principal Sonia Camilli said.

The chain, which will hang in the cafeteria for the rest of the year, is a literal reminder of how far a random act of kindness can go.
