PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Meet 5-year-old Lucas Cortez.
At age 3, he was diagnosed with leukemia, but today it's all smiles as he learns his Make-A-Wish was granted!
"He's good, he's in remission and maintenance treatment for the next couple of years still because they do three-and-a-half years all together, but he's doing really well," Eileen Cortez said.
Lucas' wish was to go to Universal Studios to have a meet-and-greet with Spongebob and it's officially happening next week.
"He loves Spongebob and Legos and Five Nights of Freddie," Cortez said.
So today, the Make-A-Wish Foundation threw him an ice cream party with all his friends to tell him the good news.
"We always throw a party for the child, so you either do a send-off or the wish-granting party and sometimes it's combined and this one is combined," Cheryl Lennon said.
Lennon says sometimes she doesn't know who's more excited, the child or the Make-A-Wish team who gets to grant the wish.
"Love it, it's great being a wish granter is fun, it really is," she said.
The Cortez family leaves next week and after meeting Spongebob, they'll spend a few days in Disneyland.
The family recently moved from Prescott to Anthem for Lucas' medical needs.
