Man accused of fatally shooting girlfriend in car, Tempe police say
TEMPE, Ariz. - A man has been accused of first-degree murder after he allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend in Tempe on Thursday night.
Investigators say Adrian Aguilar, 20, was driving when he fired several shots into a car near 48th Street and Broadway on June 15. He and the 18-year-old woman had been arguing when the gunfire started.
"Adrian stated he drove the female victim into Phoenix where he shot her at different locations along the way," police said.
The car eventually hit a curb near I-10 in Tempe. Aguilar reportedly fired more shots at her while the car was stopped, according to court documents.
In total, the woman had been shot at least six times. She died from her injuries.
The 20-year-old saw police arriving and shot himself in the chest, but he survived. He has since been released from the hospital and has been booked into jail.
Records show that the two had been dating for about three months.
