Teenage boy dies at hospital after being shot in south Phoenix; 4 suspects arrested

Four people have been arrested in the murder and robbery of a teenager in south Phoenix.

Police say the shooting happened just before 9 p.m. on Nov. 28 near 7th and Southern Avenues. When officers got to the scene, they found 17-year-old Marc Leyva with gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a hospital where he later died.

When officers got to the scene near 7th and Southern Avenues, they found the boy with a gunshot wound. The teen was rushed to a hospital where he later died. He was not identified.

Investigators say dozens of bullet casings were found at the scene.

On Dec. 20, police announced that four suspects were arrested in connection to Leyva's death: 19-year-old Leonard Brown, 18-year-olds Dareon Harris and Takari Humphrey, and a teenager.

"All four suspects were interviewed and admitted to their involvement in a premeditated robbery that resulted in the death of Leyva," Sgt. Phil Krynsky said.

The four suspects are accused of multiple charges, including first-degree murder, attempted robbery and aggravated assault.

Phoenix area grappling with teen violence

Leyva's murder was the second deadly incident involving a teen in the greater Phoenix metro area on Nov. 28. In San Tan Valley, a 17-year-old boy was shot and killed in the Pecan Creek area.

A few days earlier south of the Valley in Casa Grande, two teenage girls were shot at a house party.

Since the night of Nov. 28, two more teens have been shot and killed in the Phoenix area, with one of the victims living in San Tan Valley, which is located next to a city where police are investigating a teen's death that happened back in October. FOX 10's Linda Williams spoke with mental health professionals to learn what is happening.
