PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Police have identified a suspect who was killed in an officer-involved shooting in the west Valley.
The shooting happened near Thomas and 58th Avenue, reportedly at about 3 a.m Saturday morning. Officers responded to a domestic situation at an apartment complex, after a friend of the victim received a text that an armed, unknown subject was in the home. Police later identified the subject as 25-year-old Angel Torres, Jr.
When police arrived at the door, the 25-year-old subject was in the hallway was pointing a weapon at police. A lieutenant who has been with the department for 21 years opened fire on the man, and he was shot and killed.
They say no officers were injured. Police closed off the area surrounding the apartment complex and a nearby Chase bank during the incident. Several units at the apartment complex were also evacuated.
Officers are now investigating what led up to the deadly officer-involved shooting.
