Slain Tempe fire captain laid to rest in Scottsdale
TEMPE, Ariz. (KSAZ) - A Tempe fire captain who was shot and killed last weekend has been laid to rest.
Capt. Kyle Brayer was laid to rest on Friday at the Scottsdale Bible Church, where a crowd gathered to pay respects.
Brayer, 34, died after he was shot in Scottsdale. The shooting happened just days before Brayer's 35th birthday.
Tempe city officials say at the request of Brayer's family, no gravesite service will follow.
In addition to serving his community as a captain in the Tempe Fire Department, Brayer also served his country, in the Marines.
"Service before self," said Tom Burns, who came to pay respects. "He exemplified service before self. Marines. Everything he did was for others, to make the country the country it is. We live in a great country because of people like Kyle."
