PHOENIX - A suspect has been arrested after a teenage boy died after being shot at a Phoenix apartment complex.
The shooting happened on May 13 just before midnight near 39th Avenue and McDowell Road. It appears that the shooter, the victim and another witness were having a barbecue in the apartment's common area before gunfire broke out.
The victim, 17-year-old Matthew Ballesteros, was taken to the hospital in critical condition and eventually died.
Neighbors who did not want to speak on camera said Ballesteros was a kind boy, and had his whole life ahead of him.

Man accused of shooting Phoenix teen dead
Police say they have arrested a man, in connection with a shooting at a Phoenix apartment complex that killed a teenage boy. FOX 10's Stephanie Bennett reports.
On May 18, Phoenix Police said 24-year-old Alexander Martin Reyes was arrested in connection to the shooting.
Reyes, according to court documents, was arrested on May 17. Investigators said the victim, along with Reyes and other witnesses, were having a barbecue in the area prior to the shooting. At around 8:00 p.m., the victim went to an apartment in the area to borrow a phone and call his mother for a ride home.
"The victim made statements to the occupant of that apartment that defendant was not acting right," investigators wrote, in the court document.
The victim, according to investigators, later returned to the same apartment at around 11:30 p.m. to borrow the phone again, where he told the apartment's occupant that the defendant had pointed his gun at him.
"The victim exited the apartment with the cell phone. Minutes later, witnesses heard gunshots, and saw the victim along, on the ground, with apparent gunshot wounds," a portion of the court documents read.
Reyes, according to court documents, requested an attorney after he was read his Miranda warnings.
He was booked into jail and is accused of murder. A judge has set a $1 million cash-only bond for Reyes.
