Sheriff's K-9 recovers after attack during SWAT situation
MESA, Ariz. (AP) -- A Maricopa County Sheriff's spokeswoman says a law enforcement K-9 bitten by a suspect's dogs during a SWAT situation is recovering.
Officer Courtney Palma said Saturday evening that the dog Marco required stitches and will have to rest for several days but is expected to be OK.
She says the dog was injured when SWAT officers entered the home in Mesa of a man accused of shooting at his girlfriend, who escaped the house and wasn't wounded.
Palma says the suspect's dogs attacked Marco as deputies entered the home, fired a rubber bullet at the man and took him in the custody. His name has not been released.
