AZ trailer fire sent pillar of smoke into the air
A trailer fire near 31st Avenue and Buckeye in Phoenix sent a tall, black plume of smoke into the Phoenix air that could be seen for miles. FOX 10's Brian Webb reports.
PHOENIX - A trailer fire near 31st Avenue and Buckeye sent a tall, black plume of smoke into the Phoenix air that could be seen for miles on Friday.
Fire officials say the fire broke out at around noon, when it sparked at one trailer.
"I was just backing out of my driveway when all hell broke loose," said Walt Wenker, who lives in the area, and saw what happened.
"I just let them know there was a property on fire, things are popping and blowing up right next to it. If they can hurry up and get out here," said Ray Spencer, recounting the moment he called 911.
The fire was out within an hour, but a total of ten people have been displaced. HAZMAT crews also had to be called due to a gas leak.
"I’m just really bummed out because that's someone’s house right there," said one area resident. "That’s the place they live. It is just not what you want to see at all."
The cause of the fire is unknown, and an emergency response team is helping those affected find a temporary place to stay.
