Residents report suspicious man harassing women in North Phoenix neighborhood

PHOENIX (FOX 10) - A group of residents in North Phoenix is hoping to warn others about a potentially dangerous situation happening in their neighborhood near 19th Avenue and Northern.

For the past several months, they say a man in his 50s or 60s, driving a white pickup truck has been harassing women in the area.

Sharon Ringstaff first spotted the man back in February after he began following her home from the gym.

"I noticed a man in a white truck on the other side of the street and I noticed that he noticed me and I just had an uneasy feeling about him," said Sharon Ringstaff.

She says the man continued to follow her before pulling up beside her and asking if she wanted a ride. Sharon told him, no, but she says he continued to follow her into her apartment complex before she could get away. That's when she called the police, but officers told her there was nothing they could do until he commits a crime.

"It's very unnerving to tell somebody who has been through this that until he commits a crime that there is nothing that they can do about it because I feel like they can do more prevention," said Sharon.

Sharon says other women have experienced the same thing with the same suspect and have been posting about it online.

Fox 10 reached out to Phoenix Police who say they are aware of the incidents.

In the meantime, Sharon says it's important that the women in her neighborhood stay aware of their surroundings.

"At first I thought it was an isolated incident that happened with me and seeing that he's still out there following multiple women it means they really need to be careful in this area," says Sharon.
