Police: Man killed girlfriend in front of 4 children, mom
DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. - Douglasville Police said a murder suspect shot himself during a manhunt early Tuesday morning. Officers said 34-year-old Paul Humphries killed his girlfriend in front of her four children and her mother Monday night.
It happened inside the Hunters Ridge subdivision off of Malone Road.
Lt. Mark Edwards with the Douglasville Police Department told FOX 5 News police believe Humphries lived in the home with his girlfriend.
Police said they responded to a report of shots fired at the location around 9 p.m., and found the woman in the driver's seat of a van in her driveway, dead from apparent gunshot wounds. Police have not released the woman's name.
Investigators said after the shooting Humphries took off running. This triggered a search that involved Douglasville Police, Douglas County Sheriff's Office and Georgia State Patrol. Some residents were kept out of the subdivision during the manhunt. Hours later residents in a nearby neighborhood called police after spotting the suspect. Not long after a shot rang out.
Paramedics rushed Humphries to Wellstar Douglas Hospital, where at last check he was in critical condition.
Investigators said the murder stemmed from a domestic dispute between Humphries and his girlfriend that went on for four full hours. At the time of the shooting the victim was trying to put her children in the van. Neither the children nor the woman's mother suffered any injuries.
