Police identify teen killed in Mesa crash
MESA, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Mesa Police have released the name of a teenager who was killed in a car crash at McKellips near Stapley on Saturday morning.
A spokesperson for Mesa Police says 19-year-old Daniel Corona of mesa was killed in the crash. Officers say he was not wearing a seatbelt and impairment appears to have been a factor in the deadly accident.
Officers say just before 7 a.m., a four-door passenger vehicle drifted into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into a passenger truck. The driver of the car was heading eastbound and moved into oncoming westbound traffic.
The driver of the passenger vehicle, the only person inside, was killed on the scene. The truck driver suffered minor injuries.
Eastbound McKellips and Stapley were shut down on Saturday morning as police investigated, and the area re-opened several hours later.
