Police discover woman's body along roadway
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - A 9-1-1 call was made just around 6 a.m. Thursday, reporting an injured person on the side of the road.
When officers arrived at the scene near 29th Avenue and Northern, they found the victim laying on the ground.
"I heard vehicles out here," Sandra Virgil, a neighbor, said. "I didn't get to look and I told my sister. The one time I don't look because a lot of times, people just stop here and they wait a while for their drug connection."
Virgil lives half a block from the crime scene and she was shocked to wake up to police tape and dozens of officers outside her home, but not surprised they were investigating a possible homicide.
"I heard a vehicle stop and it sounded like a strong motor," she said. "It stopped out here for a good 30 or 40 minutes and then some other car drove up and I heard the door close loud and they took off."
On Friday, the victim was identified as 26-year-old Martika Moore.
"Although the cause of her death has not yet been determined, investigators are trying to uncover the circumstances surrounding her death. Anyone with information about Martika or her activities prior to 6:00 a.m., on Thursday January 28, 2016, is urged to call the Phoenix Police Department at 602-262-6141 or Silent Witness at 480-W-I-T-N-E-S-S," stated Sgt. Jonathan Howard.
