Phoenix police: Unlicensed 17-year-old driver hits, kills pedestrian
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Phoenix police say a 17-year-old unlicensed driver hit and killed a 52-year-old man who was crossing the street.
According to Sgt. Vince Lewis with the Phoenix Police Department, the teen driver was traveling eastbound on Atlanta Avenue near Seventh Avenue on August 12 at around 8 p.m. when he struck 52-year-old Samuel Flores, who was crossing the street.
Police say Flores was pronounced dead at the scene by firefighters.
The teen driver was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the collision and he stayed at the scene following the crash, according to police. The teen showed no signs of impairment.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and charges against the teen are under review.
