MESA, Ariz. - A police investigation is underway in Mesa after a woman was killed in an early-morning shooting on Jan. 15.
Mesa police say officers were conducting a traffic stop just before 2 a.m. near Second Street and Mesa Drive when they heard a gunshot.
The officers searched the area before responding to a distress call. When they arrived at the call's location, they found a 24-year-old woman with a gunshot wound.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the suspect left the area in a vehicle after the shooting.
"Detectives are currently on scene speaking to witnesses and residents," Mesa police spokeswoman Brandi George said in a statement. "At this time, we have not made any arrests. We are asking anyone with knowledge of what occurred to please call the Mesa Police Department."
