A mulch fire broke out in Phoenix on Sunday afternoon and smoke could be seen for miles. The fire broke out near 27th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road, the fire department said on June 16.
PHOENIX - A mulch fire broke out in Phoenix on Sunday afternoon and smoke could be seen for miles.
The fire ignited near 27th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road around 4:30 p.m. on June 16, the fire department said.
Phoenix Fire says the fire was fast-moving and wind driven, so additional resources were called to battle the flames.
"Firefighters utilized resources to surround the fire from all sides, gaining fire control while also utilizing front and loaders located on the property. Throughout the afternoon and into the early evening, command recycled crews to maintain the safety of the firefighters battling the fire and triple digit temperatures," Phoenix Fire Capt. Rob McDade said.
Crews will ensure any hot spots are put out completely so that the fire doesn't reignite.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and no injuries are reported.
