Mom hears daughter's heart beat again
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - When Sunni Goddard died at the age of 17, she knew she wanted to be an organ donor to save other people's lives if anything happened to her.
She ended up saving four lives, and her mother met the man who is alive after receiving Sunni's heart.
Traci Helms got to meet Mark Wilson for the first time Monday. Mark was critically ill with congestive heart failure 2-years-ago. But he is alive thanks to Traci's daughter's donation.
There wasn't a dry eye in the room as Traci was able to hear her daughter's heart beating again for the first time in two years.
"I don't think there are words to describe it," said Traci Helms.
Helms said the tragic loss of her daughter at such a young age is something she will never get over. But knowing Sunni helped save Mark and three other lives through organ donation; it brings her a sense of comfort.
"It does because I feel like her whole spirit goes on through him," she said.
Wilson is a husband and father of two, and his life is back to the way it was before he became sick. He's able to go hiking again, something Traci says Sunni also loved to do.
