How does your state "ex-presso" itself?

A new map has been released revealing every state’s favorite coffee beverage – and it seems that espresso is the runaway favorite across the nation.

The company Coffeeness analyzed 21 types of popular coffee drinks and gathered data by checking the Google search volume for each coffee type in various countries worldwide.

Espresso is most popular drink in the US

The study found that espresso was the most popular coffee drink in the United States, taking the top spot in 28 states.

The latte followed espresso, and was the most popular in 14 states. The cappuccino came in third in the U.S., being preferred in 11 states.

Interestingly, Connecticut preferred affogato, which is ice cream drowned in coffee, and Louisiana was the only state to prefer a café au lait, which is a French coffee drink made with equal parts black coffee and steamed milk with no froth. Meanwhile, coffee drinkers in Georgia loved black coffee without cream or sugar.

Coffeeness said the study suggested that the majority of Americans prefer their coffee strong and bitter, while the rest of the world leans towards a milder taste.

Coffee preferences by US city

According to the study, New York, San Diego, Dallas and Austin all have a solid caffeine culture and a strong inclination toward espresso. Most states in the West also preferred espresso as their coffee drink of choice.

Scientists say there is such a thing as drinking too much coffee

If you are experiencing heart palpitations, anxiousness, and jitters because of your caffeine consumption, it could be because your body is trying to tell you that you’re drinking too much.

Coffeeness also found the cappuccino to be quite popular in the Midwest, surpassing its formerly known strongholds on the East Coast. Tampa, New Orleans and Atlanta in the southeast also favored the large, frothy, creamy cappuccino.

Only Phoenix, Louisiana and Cincinnati had the Americano as their favorite.
