A man walked onto the campus of a Tucson charter school through an open gate that was for deliveries, police said. Officers found the man sitting on the floor inside the gym, where teachers and students were present. Police say the man didn't draw any weapons, but they found a fun and knife on the man after taking him into custody. The man allegedly told investigators he had been on drugs and planned to harm children.
TUCSON, Ariz. - A man accused of bringing a gun and a knife to a school in Tucson was arrested.
The incident happened on Jan. 16 at Legacy Traditional School, located near Golf Links and Harrison Roads.
What we know:
Tucson Police say officers responded to reports of a man acting erratically in the parking lot of the school. When officers got to the school, they found the man had entered the campus through an open gate and was sitting in the gym and talking to himself.
The man was detained and police say a handgun and knife were found on him.
The suspect was identified as 31-year-old Daniel Hollander. He allegedly told police that he had been using drugs and went to the school to "cause harm to the children," KOLD-TV reports.
Hollander was booked into jail and is accused of attempted terrorism, interfering with an educational institution, weapons misconduct and burglary.
