Man arrested after allegedly firing at Chandler police officers
CHANDLER, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Police say a man was arrested after he allegedly held his girlfriend and her nephew against their will at gunpoint and fired gunshots at Chandler police officers.
The Chandler Police Department says officers were first sent to a gas station at the 2900 block of Riggs Road at around 7:15 p.m. for a shooting. A vehicle fled the scene prior to the officers arriving, but callers and witnesses provided a vehicle description to officers.
Later, at approximately 7:30 p.m., police received a call of a man inside a white passenger car, pointing a gun while traveling north on Arizona Avenue and Germann. Officers found the car in the area of Pecos and Arizona Avenue, where shots were fired at officers.
An ensuing pursuit headed into the Gila River Indian Community, where three people were initially taken into custody without incident, about a mile south of Hunt Highway on State Route 587.
Investigators determined 29-year-old Robert Lee Antone, Jr., was holding his girlfriend and her nephew against their will at gunpoint inside the vehicle. Police say he is the lone shooter in both incidents.
No other suspects are at large, according to Chandler Police.
Police also said in the statement that two people were taken to the hospital in an unknown condition.
One victim was shot at the Riggs Road location, and the other person was shot near Arizona Avenue and Pecos.
