Alleged DUI driver in Loop 202 wrong-way crash arrested: Child killed, 3 others hurt

A man is in jail after causing a wrong-way crash that left a child dead and several others hurt on Loop 202 Sunday afternoon, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.

The crash happened just before 5 p.m. on the freeway at 32nd Street on May 21.

"Treatment and transportation sectors were established to better manage the safety and effectiveness at the scene and one person was extricated from their vehicle with the "jaws of life," firefighters said.

Alleged wrong-way driver had BAC more than 4 times legal limit: court documents

According to court documents, Allen Johnson had a blood-alcohol level of .327. He allegedly admitted to drinking and driving in the wrong direction but didnt think he was impaired by alcohol.

The people injured in the crash include the suspect, a little girl, a woman, and a 10-year-old boy who died from his injuries. DPS says all four were inside the car together.

The fifth person was a woman in her car alone. She was also hurt.

Allen Michael Johnson, a friend of the victims, was arrested on suspicion of DUI. He was booked into jail on a $1 million bond and is accused of second-degree homicide and three counts of aggravated assault.
