PHOENIX (KSAZ) -- Fall may be right around the corner, but in the Valley, it looks the triple-digit heat is looking to stick around a while longer, as an excessive heat warning is in effect through Saturday.
With some outdoor festivals happening this weekend, a lot of folks are going to be dealing with some scorching temps. Organizers of the third annual MessyFest in Queen Creek are bringing in a typhoon cooler to help cool people down.
"So, we have added more shade to our event. We added a typhoon cooler," said organizer Tiffany Schultz. "We added that just a few days ago when we found out the temperatures, just to keep everybody cool."
The high is expected to be around 110°F (~43.33°C) on Saturday.
"117 degrees and that was pointing at on the dirt," said Thomas Tutera.
The truck can get temperatures down to 82°F (~27.77°C), up to 40 feet away from the fans. Around 2,000 people are expected to come out to have fun and get dirty.
"In addition, we have tons of water rides, mud pits to keep cool, and everything happens before 1:00 p.m.," said Schultz.
A mother of two young kids isn't going to let the excessive heat warning ruin her weekend plans.
"Every year we come," said Carrie Hansen. "We come from 8:00 a.m. 'till 12:00 p.m. time slot. It's the best time to come. Still pretty cool, and they're all tuckered out for a nice long nap."
In case someone gets overheated, Tutera said the fans could help get them back to normal.
"This test was done for three minutes at an event for Phoenix Fire. It will lower an internal core 1/2°C", said Tutera. "In nine minutes, you will save a human life."
