GOODYEAR, Ariz. - New video showing an encounter with a stabbing suspect at a Valley grocery store has been released by police.
The backstory:
The incident happened on Jan. 30 inside a Goodyear Safeway near Litchfield and Indian School Roads.
Police say they found the suspect after he stabbed an employee at the grocery store.
The victim was stabbed several times in the face and head. His injuries were considered to be non-life-threatening.
The suspect was eventually taken into custody after officers deployed a stun gun.
One officer suffered minor injuries during the incident.
What they're saying:
The video released by the Goodyear Police Department shows officers arriving at the scene before encountering the suspect and eventually taking him into custody.
"Where is he?" An officer asked an employee upon entering the store.
"Why is he attacking him? The officer asked.
"I don't know," an employee replied.
The video shows officers walking to the store's stockroom, where the suspect and victim were found, with a knife on the ground.
"What are you doing?!" the officer shouted. "Let him go!"
Police said the initial stun gun deployment failed, and the suspect advanced toward the officer.
"The suspect ignored lawful comments from the officer," police said.
The suspect was taken into custody after another stun gun was used.
What we don't know:
The suspect was not identified. The circumstances of what led up to the stabbing are also unknown.
