Glendale Police: Arrest made in assault of soldier

Glendale Police officials say a 32-year-old man accused of assaulting a 27-year-old veteran over the weekend has been arrested. FOX 10's Justin Lum reports.

Glendale Police officials say a 32-year-old man accused of assaulting a 27-year-old veteran over the weekend has been arrested.

Ricky Soqui, police say, was arrested on Wednesday, and he is facing a count of aggravated assault and a count of disorderly conduct.

The incident happened during the early morning hours of August 17th at a restaurant on 99th Avenue and Camelback Road, where Soqui allegedly had a fight with Adam McClure. The fight began inside the restaurant on 99th Avenue and Camelback Road, and continued in the parking lot.

Witnesses gave McClure CPR until first responders arrived at the scene.

"They saved my son," said McClure's mother, Lisa. "If they weren't there, the suspect would have left as he did, and my son could have died right there. So how do you say thank you? Thank you is not enough."

McClure was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and is still in the hospital at this time. Lisa said McClure hit his head on the ground during the fight, as Soqui jumped on top and continued to punch him as McClure laid unconscious.

"I feel like I've been robbed," said Lisa. "I just pray that he can recover 100%."

According to Glendale Police officials, surveillance image of Soqui sparked several tips from the public, helping detectives identify him as well as three others seen with him at the restaurant.
