First-alarm fire at Chandler recycling plant
CHANDLER - A first-alarm fire breaks out at a Chandler recycling plant early Saturday morning
The fire broke out in Chandler St. on Hamilton, near Ray and McQueen, at about 4:30am on Saturday. Bales of paper and plastic began burning until the flames spread and the incident escalated to a first-alarm fire.
Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish flames coming from the burning recyclable materials, and to keep them from spreading into the building. The fire caused a haze to develop over the area on Saturday morning.
Westbound Hamilton was shut down while crews from Chandler, Mesa and Gilbert battled the blaze. Crews will remain on scene to make sure any hot spots are put out.
