Man shot, killed by deputies in fiery barricade, PCSO says

The incident, according to a PCSO spokesperson, began when PCSO deputies, along with Apache Junction Police Department officers, tried to stop a known suspect from an earlier domestic violence incident, as he was recklessly driving a motor home in Apache Junction.

The suspect, according to the spokesperson, later returned to his home in an unincorporated area of Pinal County and barricaded himself after ramming a marked PCSO vehicle.

"The Pinal Regional SWAT Team was called in to assist. The suspect was seen armed with a knife and a handgun," read a portion of the statement released by PCSO. "At one point, the suspect started a fire inside a detached garage. It has spread to several additional structures."

The shooting, according to the PCSO spokesperson, happened during negotiation efforts, leaving the suspect dead. He was identified as 53-year-old Daniel Barnes.
