Pedestrian hit, killed by car near 51st Avenue and McDowell

A Phoenix intersection was shut down Wednesday morning after a woman was struck and killed by a truck.

The collision happened at around 5:40 a.m. on Aug. 10 near 51st Avenue and Encanto Boulevard.

The pedestrian, identified as 30-year-old Alberta Cons, died from her injures.

Police say a pickup truck had been heading south down 51st Avenue when traffic started to slow because a car in the curb lane had broken down.

"The pickup truck swerved to the left and collided into another truck who was going north on 51st Ave," officials said in a statement.

The truck then swerved to the right after the crash, hitting Alberta Cons. She had been standing on the sidewalk next to her disabled vehicle.

No one else was hurt in the crash, and there were no signs of impairment.
