TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say they have recovered the bodies of two men who drowned in the ocean off Georgia's largest public beach.
Tybee Island officials said in a news release that crews found the bodies of 24-year-old Montell Newton and 31-year-old Kiwan Benson on Wednesday. The men were from Atlanta and had been missing since Monday off the beach vacation island east of Savannah.
News outlets report the men were hanging out Monday evening on a sandbar when it was submerged by the high tide. A friend who made it back to shore reported the two men missing.
The Coast Guard, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and other agencies helped Tybee Island Fire and Rescue crews search for the missing swimmers.
